Fifth Sunday After the Epiphany, Year C
Scripture: Luke 5:1-11
This week, Jesus has a boat as a pulpit. Amid the crowd are two exhausted fishermen who had worked all night long without catching anything. Casting nets, pulling in empty nets, all night long. Jesus uses these two men as his “sermon illustration.” Jesus tells them to let down their nets for a catch. They muster up the courage to try yet again. They take the risk and find abundance.

How do I find the date that corresponds to the lesson?
James,
We are working on adding a grid that will tell you this very information. For now, you can go to this calendar which tells you when each Sunday falls. (http://www.episcopalchurch.org/lectionary-calendar) I am hoping this will be addressed soon.
This is a good opportunity to teach the use of the Book of Common Prayer, which has the Lectionary and Daily Office, along with instructions for finding out which calendar year is appropriate. The only problem is that we’re now using the revised common lectionary, which has slightly different readings assigned.
Thank you for your inquiry. The Revised Common Lectionary has been adapted for the Episcopal Church and you can find the lectionary at this website. http://www.lectionarypage.net/YearC_RCL/Lent/Clent2_RCL.html
We are working on getting these citations on the Lesson Plans that Work site so that it is easier to find. Some parishes are still using the other Lectionary (which sometimes has different Gospel Lessons and different Old Testament lessons).
