	Participants are led through an ordered Benedictine day of prayer, study, work and leisure by the Steward of the House of Prayer, The Rev. Ward Bauman. Daily worship begins by joining the monks at the Abbey Church for Morning Prayer. Morning and Evening Sessions are led by faculty from St. John’s Abbey and the Monastery of St. Benedict with ample opportunity for discussion following each session. We spend one morning with the Sisters of St. Benedict at St. Joseph. Noon Eucharist is celebrated in the very lovely Oratory at the House of Prayer. Afternoons are time for rest, study and participants are encouraged to take part in work projects. We return to the Abbey Church for Evensong. Compline ends the day after which silence is observed through breakfast the following morning. One day is set aside as Desert Day and is primarily in silence. This year’s theme will look at the role of creativity in our spiritual lives, as both a gateway ane response to the Divine.

	This 5-day residential conference will address the work of leading a faith community will particular focus on the challenges and dangers inherent in leading through change, as well as the danger of keeping the status quo. Participants will learn about the existence and function of power and authority as they relate to and influence the roles, tasks, and relationships of those exerting leadership and those who are being led. The conference will introduce theories of a faith community as an emotional system the influences how a person acts and relates to others in the emotional system, at the conscious and unconscious level. The conference will present a framework for diagnosing and addressing tough problems, and understanding the concepts of change and adaptation. Political science and social psychology offer insights into the dynamics of groups and social systems for examining the functions of power and authority, and for distinguishing these from leadership.
