America deserves better than the American Health Care Act

[Episcopal Public Policy Network policy alert] This week, the House of Representatives unveiled the American Health Care Act, a bill that aims to repeal and replace elements of the Affordable Care Act.

This legislation would swap current income-based health care subsidies for a system of tax credits that privileges wealthier and younger Americans at the expense of low-income and elderly persons. The proposed legislation would also phase out the Medicaid expansion while defunding Planned Parenthood, furthering jeopardizing the health of vulnerable populations. Unfortunately, the act is moving forward without a Congressional Budget Office evaluation — a critical accountability step that would offer greater clarity into the full impact of this legislation.

  1. Ralph Davis says:

So apparently the PB’s frequent statements about “the dignity of every human being ” does not extend to the unborn. How can we possibly be in favor of funding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider? I am pro life and in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood.

  2. J. Woods says:

Thank you ! I am proud to be an Episcopalian and to join in to take a stand to help protect the least of those who need health care alone with the seniors .

  3. Donald Heacock says:

Planned Parenthood is a fraud. It supplies abortion & birth control services. In most outlets nothing else. It says the US Government grants arn’t spent for abortion. Where else does it go!

    • Elizabeth Williams says:

Planned Parenthood provides total healthcare, wellness, cancer screening, etc. to men, women, and children in areas that do not have healthcare services available without traveling long distances.
Defunding Planned Parenthood is essentially throwing the less fortunate under the bus. Adding insult to injury is the funding of the American Health Care Act with tax credits which low income folks do not have.

  4. Adelaide B Kent says:

The best preventative of abortion is birth control.
