I love this idea!
Several of our clergy throughout the Diocese of Newark took part in this ministry, including the Bishop, Canon to the Ordinary and Chief Financial Officer. Please visit our website.
“Ashes to Go” is both pastoral and grounding for the churched and unchurched alike. Many will be blessed by this proactive ministry. A brilliant idea comes into its own!
I think this is an excellent idea. We did a similar thing at Church of the Epiphany in Washington. Our Rector, Randolph Charles, was outside the entrance to the church to impose ashes after our 12:10 liturgy and again from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to the evening liturgy for Ash Wednesday.
St Peter’s Episcopal, Beverly MA took Ashes to Go to our commuter rail station from 5:30 – 8:30 am on Ash Wednesday. We used three teams of two (a Deacon, 4 LEMs and a catechist) each working for an hour and imposed ashes on about 35 people. Many more said they were glad to see us doing this.
What a great way to bring people to our Lord. Maybe it will open the hearts of those who received ashes to become more in touch with their Lord and Savior.
