Associate Rector for Family Ministry
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
Richmond, Virginia

St. Stephen’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, a large, vibrant, multi-staff parish with ASA of 1200+ seeks an ordained priest to focus on our growing family ministries. The successful candidate will work closely with the incumbent director of family ministries for several months. Responsibilities include overseeing and supporting staff and volunteers in children’s ministry, youth ministry and our ministry to parents.

The candidate must have a passion for family ministry which will be his/her main concern, though he/she will be part of a larger team, with opportunities for ministry in several other areas, including worship that ranges from very traditional to highly contemplative, extensive outreach ministries and broadly-based pastoral care.

St. Stephen’s has a thriving Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, Sunday school and youth groups for grades 4 through 12, and speakers and groups for parents. The parish offers youth several regular opportunities to participate in youth mission trips, pilgrimages and community service. Children and youth regularly serve in our worship services, both in the main church and in Palmer Hall Chapel. Palmer Hall services, while using a traditional Book of Common Prayer liturgy, are somewhat more informal, welcoming to people who are new to the Episcopal Church’s liturgy, and engaging for children and parents alike.

Recently ordained clergy with demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills are eligible, as are more experienced clergy.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Compensation includes health and dental coverage and participation in the Church Pension Fund.

Responsibilities and areas of focus will include the following.
