What do you want this person to do?
Epiphany Episcopal Parish enthusiastically announces an opening for its Director of Music. This opportunity has been carefully planned in anticipation of the recent retirement of the Parish’s long-serving and highly regarded former Director of Music.

Epiphany is located in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood. The congregation was established in 1907, and the first permanent Parish building, a chapel designed by renowned local architect Ellsworth Storey, was consecrated in 1911. A larger, attached church was consecrated in 1951. Epiphany is blessed with three full-time clergy: a Rector, an Associate Rector (under recruitment) and a Curate. Epiphany is growing. Total annual attendance in 2016 was 18,655, an increase of 300% over the past ten years. Superb music in the Anglican/Episcopalian tradition is fundamental at Epiphany and integral to our worship experience.

The two worship spaces and other rooms on the Epiphany campus were part of a multi-million dollar renovation completed in 2016. Key architectural decisions were made for the express purpose of enhancing acoustics. The church and chapel have become appealing spaces for visiting professional musicians. A Music Guild was formed in 2016 to organize and promote sacred and secular performances. The Parish’s instruments include a 1997 Fritz Noack Opus 132 tracker organ with three manuals and 36 stops, a 2016 Martin Pasi Opus 25 tracker organ with two manuals and 18 stops, two Steinway pianos including a 1901 Hamburg Steinway, a spinet harpsichord and a Flemish-style double harpsichord from the workshop of Frank Hubbard in Boston, Mass.

The Director of Music will lead and further strengthen both the semi-professional adult choir and the children’s choir, perform most service music and work in close partnership with the Rector and Verger/Liturgist on all worship liturgies. The Parish seeks a “builder” with experience in assembling and nurturing sacred music programs who can use our music infrastructure, sound foundation and musically-involved congregation to build leading adult and children’s choir programs that are significant venues for Anglican music in the Pacific Northwest. The complete job description is available on the parish’s home page,epiphanyseattle.org, and the deadline for applications is September 15, 2017. The selected candidate will be offered professional-level salary and benefits commensurate with experience and national guidelines. Additional Parish benefits may be available.
