Job Summary: Responsible for facilitating spiritual development and campus outreach through St. Augustine’s at the University of Kentucky

Responsible to: The Board of Directors for St. Augustine’s

Responsibilities of the Chaplain: To work with the St. Augustine’s Board, Episcopal Diocese of Lexington, and the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to address and respond to the religious and spiritual needs of the UK campus community; to serve as chaplain to students, faculty, and staff at the University of Kentucky; and to provide day-to-day oversight and direction of St. Augustine’s.

• Provide vision and coordination for St. Augustine’s
• Commit 40 hours per week to the ministry, to include, but not limited to, the following activities:
o Being on-site and available to students for Bible study, discussion, and worship, including evening and weekend service(s), studies/classes, and activities
o Planning and preparation (programming, email/social media/electronic communication)
o Being a presence in the campus community for students, staff, and faculty; participating in the life of the campus community
• Assist the development of student leadership in worship planning and carrying out worship responsibilities
• Initiate and nurture relationships with persons on campus, invite them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, and motivate and equip others to do the same
• Provide appropriate pastoral care to St. Augustine’s members and the university community
• Foster a climate of welcome and hospitality at St. Augustine’s toward all people on campus
• Participate each semester in activities on campus which promote the ministry and/or provide fundraising activities (approximately 2-4 per semester)
• Participate each semester in activities with students (e.g. attending a football game or Dance Blue – approximately 2-4 activities per semester)
• Manage the physical structure of the chapel
• Foster ecumenical relationships with other ministries or organizations on campus and in the community
• Develop and operate within a budget for the campus ministry, with the assistance of the Board and representatives from the Episcopal Diocese and the I-K Synod
• Meet regularly with the St. Augustine’s Board of Directors, seeking its advice and assistance with fundraising and overall vision and mission direction for the ministry

Compensation: Set based on experience and qualifications.
