|The Episcopal Service Corps (ESC) is currently accepting applications for a half-time Executive Director to help facilitate our mission of developing and supporting a national network of intentional communities in the Episcopal Church. Our communities are marked by young adults serving others in solidarity, promoting justice in community, deepening spiritual awareness and vocational discernment, and living simply in intentional Christian community.
In 2009, ESC was created through the collaboration of a handful of well-established programs seeking to increase their impact across the Episcopal Church through a pooling of resources and strategic partnerships for growth. With the help of significant grants from Trinity Wall Street and the Episcopal Church, ESC has seen that dream expanded, fulfilled, and expanded again. Now 25 programs strong with hundreds of alumni, a strong brand across the Episcopal church, and 180+ active corps members, ESC faces new growth opportunities and new challenges.
The church and the nation have changed significantly in the last eight years and with them the prospects for young adults. Changes in job availability, student debt, community needs, and cultural conflict weigh on young adults’ life decisions and the way they approach opportunities for service and development. ESC seeks to engage dioceses, church leadership, and community partners in continuously improving and evolving our model for engaging young adults in intentional and impactful service opportunities during a formative period of life.
While the action will always be on the ground in our local programs, ESC serves the important purpose of collecting the common wisdom of our programs, solving for efficiencies, and guiding our growth into those places we are most called to serve. With an emphasis on areas of administration, financial sustainability, corps member recruitment, and network development the Executive Director will be responsible for working alongside the Board of Directors and ESC program directors to steward the management of these priorities and the growth of the organization.
We seek candidates with strong administrative skills who can help formalize systems for communication and develop best practices across our programs. Ideal candidates will also have strength in development as we move from large grants-based funding to more diversified revenue streams of dues, small grants, and individual donors. Familiarity with year-long service programs for young adults and the Episcopal Church is preferred, but a willingness to engage, develop, and learn from a broad set of stakeholders is a must. The work is exciting and we are looking forward to hearing from many diverse candidates from across the country with a passion to partner and grow the impact of faith-based service on the lives of young adults.
