What are you looking for?
Rector
What’s the name of your church or organization?
St. John’s Episcopal Church
Where is the job site located?
Salem, NJ
What do you want this person to do?
St. John’s is a small but dedicated congregation. We desire to partner with a Rector that is committed to helping our church grow in numbers, faith and outreach, while honoring our past and present.

Although we have a small congregation, it is a very dedicated group. We work together to provide community, fellowship and support to our members and to the community surrounding us. Our outreach programs continue to grow. We have programs that have been in place for a long time, such as our Quilters, who sew quilts for children at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden; our food pantry; and our music ministry. We also have newer initiatives, such as our Backpack Program for 8th Grade students at Salem Middle School; Trunk or Treat at Halloween to give neighborhood children a safe place to trick-or-treat; and our Secret Santa Shop, which children are invited to come ‘shop’ for Christmas gifts for family members. Our Deacon, who has been with us for 4 years, has spearheaded many of our newest initiatives. She is one of our greatest strengths. When our previous rector was here, she assisted him in many ways and initiated many new outreach programs. In the absence of a rector, she continues to direct our outreach and provides continuity of spiritual direction to our parish. Finally, whenever we talk about our strengths, we have to acknowledge the endowments that help to fund our building upkeep, outreach projects and special activities.

4/26/17: Rector (Chattanooga, TN)

What are you looking for?
Rector
What’s the name of your church or organization?
Grace Episcopal Church
Where is the job site located?
Chattanooga, TN
What do you want this person to do?
Grace is an active parish, located in the Brainerd neighborhood of Chattanooga. Strong and committed lay leadership, diverse and welcoming are words often used to describe our parish. We are known for our innovative outreach projects, commitment to social justice, and a deep connection to the surrounding community, which is both residential and urban-commercial. There is a community garden on the property and a Farmer’s Market is held weekly during the growing season. This market was one of the first to develop the capacity for accepting food stamps and the parish now doubles the food stamp dollars for fresh produce through donations from parishioners.

Grace sponsors a lecture series called “Grace Speaks: Faith and Spirituality in the 21st Century.” The program has featured nationally known speakers including Matthew Fox, John Dominic Crossan, Nadia Bolz-Weber and Dr. Amy Jill Levine. Our members appreciate good music and challenging sermons.

We are looking for a rector with a playful spirit but a deep personal conviction and spirituality–a priest who will walk alongside us as we develop our own spirituality and help us to discern our call. Moreover, we seek a rector who empowers the laity to use their own special gifts in service to the Lord. We seek a rector who facilitates our efforts to connect with each other and with our neighborhood, our community, and the world. We are looking for a rector who has the leadership skills to ask and listen, in order to hear how God is already at work in the world ahead of us, and who manages the parish in a fashion that allows us to participate in God’s mission. If you are such a person, we hope you will Say Grace with us.

4/26/17: Rector (Gatlinburg, TN)

What are you looking for?
Rector
What’s the name of your church or organization?
Trinity Episcopal Church
Where is the job site located?
Gatlinburg, TN
What do you want this person to do?
Trinity Church, Gatlinburg, was begun in 1941 dedicated to serving the people of Gatlinburg and the larger community of Sevier County, TN. From the outside, our church has a quaint Old English look which may appear a little formal to some, but inside you will find a warm, welcoming, and casual atmosphere that makes folks feel comfortable. We describes our congregation as “friends growing in Christ” and, though small, we seek ways to have impact on our community. In November 2016, a devastating fire killed 14 people and destroyed 2400+ homes, businesses, and buildings in and around Gatlinburg. The community has responded as it always does, that is, by being “mountain strong.” Trinity Church is playing its role in the recovery through financial assistance and pastoral care. We are looking for a priest who can help us recover from the trauma of the fires and lead us into the future.

Our rector should be one who leads and guides us to maximize the potential within each parishioner. Our next rector should also be one who nurtures our established culture of spirituality, outreach, and genuine care for one another while challenging us to extend ourselves. Easily approachable, a person of strong character and pastoral wisdom, and a welcoming ambassador for our church are important qualities for our next rector. It is also essential that our rector understand our history and be sensitive to the needs of both newcomers and long-time members while being someone to look to in times of crisis and joy.

As a part of our compensation package we expect our new rector to live in our newly renovated rectory. (Note: due to the fires there is no housing available in the area)

4/26/17: Rector (Greeneville, TN)

What are you looking for?
Rector
What’s the name of your church or organization?
St. James’ Episcopal Church
Where is the job site located?
Greeneville, TN
What do you want this person to do?
St. James’ is an active parish with a big heart for outreach. The historic parish and church building are located in a community that has deep historic roots and significance from the time of the Revolutionary War. Our members value their heritage and cherish their past, but build the future on our people, our fellowship and our love of God. Greeneville in a lovely community at the foot of the Appalachians.

A campaign commercial for JFK once advertised that their candidate was “old enough to know, and young enough to do.” Our hope is that our new rector will fit this description, being capable of providing us not only with instruction rooted in scripture and sound doctrine, but also having a heart inclined toward pastoral care. Preaching and Pastoral Care are the two crucial abilities we hope for in our new rector. We also want someone who is warm and approachable. Whoever is called to lead us in our spiritual journey must challenge us intellectually, support our outreach efforts, and be committed to pastoral care. Our spiritual vitality is high; we want a rector who is capable and willing to match that vitality.
