The Controller is responsible for sharing in the ministry of the church relating to proper stewardship of the money given to the church for its mission and ministry within the life of the congregation as directed by the Rector.

Works with the coordination of the bookkeeper, treasurer, finance committee and under the supervision of the Rector.

Level of Independence/Supervision
Works largely independently, is expected to manage time and resources, attend financial staff meetings, contribute to the communications of the church as needed (including Trinitarian, weekly emails, bulletins etc) and be responsive to email communication from church staff and parishioners.

Works in close collaboration with all the staff, priests and lay leaders.

Principal Functions
• The Controller’s prepares a reconciliation report of all financial statements monthly for the Treasurer and provides oversight of the church’s finances from an independent perspective.
• The Controller should examine the general ledger transactions monthly to ensure proper recording of transactions.
• The Controller prepares a journal report to the Vestry for monthly review.
• The Controller prepares the parochial report to be reviewed by the Treasurer and Rector.
• The Controller prepares the parish annual report to be completed by the third week in January
• Reviews Budget Variance (Overs and Unders) and sends a report to the Finance Commission
• The Controller prepares the parish annual report to be completed by the third week in January

The Controller should have a friendly personal demeanor in dealing with parishioners; college and business training with some experience in supervision; attention to detail; self-starter good prioritizing skills; high level of discretion in dealing with sensitive data and confidential matters; ability to be a team member, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Proficiency with (or willingness to learn) a variety of software including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, ACS People and Financial Suite. Master of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and good working knowledge fund accounting. Able or willing to learn to use office equipment in the office necessary to complete job requirements.
