Job Summary & Essential Functions

The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia seeks a motivated individual to serve as Coordinator for Stewardship at Iglesia de Santa Maria (and, by extension, the Latino congregations in the Diocese). This position, funded by a grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, requires a courteous and competent individual with excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish to research, design, suggest and implement “best practices” for Christian stewardship in a Latino/Hispanic Congregation.

Because no formal stewardship program currently exists at Santa Maria, the position requires a good amount of creativity and big picture thinking. This position is located in Falls Church, Virginia where the Coordinator will work with the Rector of Iglesia de Santa Maria as the base for developing and assessing stewardship practices, training lay leaders in educating the parish on the theology of stewardship and living a life of generosity in a faith community, and generating revenue from faithful giving efforts at Santa Maria. Reporting directly to the Rector, the Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organization and supervision of all activities related to stewardship activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Develop and coordinate programs and strategies for stewardship education at Santa Maria
• Curate development resources available in Spanish and English
• Prepare and produce necessary documentation for Santa Maria’s stewardship program
• Research, develop, assess and suggest “best practices” for policies and procedures for stewardship programs for Santa Maria and other Latino/Hispanic Episcopal congregations
• Develop and implement strategies for invitation, identification and cultivation of donors
• Identify and cultivate strategic partners to fund mission and ministry at Santa Maria
• Establish and manage information tracking processes regarding acknowledgement, recognition, on-going communications and continued cultivation of past and current donors
• Input data and manage database information system
• Coordinate with Diocese of Virginia staff to create and communicate a strategy for implementing a sustainable vision of stewardship for Santa Maria (and by extension that could translate into other Hispanic/Latino congregations within the Diocese of Virginia, and that is complementary to stewardship programming out of diocesan offices.
• Participate in conferences, events and training, local and national, to develop strategic relationships for Santa Maria within and outside the broader Church
• Learn and share knowledge and inspiration related to stewardship initiatives for Latino/Hispanic congregations
• Provide direction and guidance to the Rector, Staff, Vestry and Stewardship Committee
• Recruit, train, assign, coach and supervise lay leaders for ongoing stewardship initiatives
• Develop and/or coordinate stewardship programs and events
• Coordinate with the Finance Committee and Vestry to project pledge revenues for future years and analyze giving trends.
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills required in English and Spanish
• Familiarity with The Episcopal Church
• Experience, knowledge and passion around the development of Episcopal congregations and/or other styles of vibrant, and engaged Christian congregations.
• Ability to develop strategy in the context of the Church’s mission that produces measurable impact on giving of time, talent and treasure
• Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with diverse personalities from different cultures and backgrounds in a tactful, mature, and professional manner
• Strong computer skills, planning and organizational skills, volunteer experience and some financial background
• Proven skills and ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion, including the ability to build consensus among team members and balance multiple concurrent priorities
• Ability to balance in-office work with an outside-office ministry.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends included) and travel as needed
• Be a licensed driver and have access to private transportation in fulfilling above duties. Reimbursement provided for work-related travel

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Outlook required
• Three to five years of experience in a nonprofit development office with knowledge of fundraising and stewardship principles and practices preferred
• Prior experience with a donor management system preferred
