Drew University, a Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts university, includes the College of Liberal Arts, the Drew Theological School and the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. As one of the University’s three major academic units, the Theological School has a distinguished history in training clergy for the United Methodist Church and other Protestant denominations in the United States and throughout the world. It is also a center of ecumenical scholarship and social action, educating students to make a dynamic impact on the world as pastors, professors, thought leaders, and change agents. Among the defining features of Drew Theological School are its global orientation; diversity of faculty, staff, and students; and its innovative program offerings.

Drew University is currently seeking a Director of External and Alumni Relations for the Theological School. In this role, the successful candidate will serve as a key team member of the Theological School’s Dean’s staff, will work closely with the Director of Theological School Advancement, and will serve as the principal staff person for Alumni relations, Church relations, and event coordination (lectures, lifelong learning, alumni events) in the Theological School.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Building a strong alumni relations program for the Theological school, which will involve planning and organizing 12 to 15 alumni events per year, including class reunions, annual conference visits and regional lifelong learning events, and organizing lecture series.
• In partnership with the Director of Theological School Advancement, supporting efforts of, and serve as primary staff person for, Theological Alumni Association; assisting in strengthening and growing the Theological School annual fund giving program, particularly increasing alumni participation; assisting in planning and organizing lifelong learning and continuing education programs and webinar series; and generate targeted revenue through lifelong learning and continuing education programs.
• Strengthening and developing relationships with denominational, judicatory leaders and alumni; promote, advertise, and market Theological School events and initiatives; coordinate UMC student related programming and support in conjunction with Dean of Theological School, Associate Dean for Vocation and Formation, and the Bishop-in-Residence.

• A Bachelor’s degree required; theological degree helpful
• 2 to 3 years of prior experience in alumni relations preferred.
• Candidates must have: outstanding written and oral communication skills; strong organizational and interpersonal abilities; computer literacy, including familiarity working with spreadsheets and databases; and an interest in, and enthusiasm for, supporting the mission of a progressive and diverse theological school, rooted in the Methodist tradition, as part of a team of professionals seeking to secure support for programs and projects that benefit the school and its faculty and students.
• Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to: establish and maintain good social and working relationships with colleagues, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the University; facilitate multiple projects, make decisions, and meet deadlines; manage and motivate student workers and volunteers effectively and efficiently; and identify problems and develop creative, timely, and efficient solutions.
• Position involves some travel as well as ability to work evenings and weekends.
