Led by the Rev. Susanne Watson-Epting, author of Unexpected Consequences: the Diaconate Renewed, this conference on November 12 from 9:00- 4:30 is co-sponsored by Bloy House, the Episcopal Theological School at Claremont and the Diocese of Los Angeles office of the Archdeacon. It will explore the history of the modern diaconate and the critical role the “diakonia of all believers” will play in the missional future of our Episcopal Church. Afternoon workshops leaders are Deacon Susanne Watson-Epting: “Deaconesses and Contemporary Efforts at Breaking the Glass Ceiling.” Archdeacon Joanne Leslie & other deacons in the Diocese of Los Angeles: “Being Yeast: Stories about Inspiring Initiatives that Took Root in Local Congregations.” Professor Bob Honeychurch & Chaplain David Kitch: “Diakonia: Missional Ministry as Servant Ministry.” Dean Sylvia Sweeney & Deacon Dennis Sheridan “Diaconal Preaching”.
